Interlogic supports new industry training centre
Interlogic is getting behind an innovative new training school that supplies work-ready employees for the warehousing industry.
Launched early 2015, Distribution Ready Ltd provides a range of training in warehouse management and logistics. Nick Peck, the manager and primary course tutor, explains the concept behind the new training facility:
“Over the past few years, we have seen a growing demand for warehouse personnel, particularly around third party logistics. At the same time, the functions involved in warehouse roles are becoming more sophisticated. This has driven a greater need for higher numbers of work-ready, trained personnel.”
The trainees are gaining experience with the latest warehouse management system (WMS), thanks to the support of Interlogic. The company has supplied its Multipick® software, along with Honeywell hand-held devices, to enable paperless picking and scanning.
“We’re very keen to lend our support, as we believe this new training facility will be a real boon for the industry,” says Les Wootton of Interlogic.
“There’s nothing else like it in New Zealand.”
As a division of Wright Recruitment, the business operates from a 400-sq m warehouse in Echelon Place in East Tamaki. The warehouse has been fitted with racking and shelving – and uses sample product, cartons and pallet lots – to replicate a fully-operational warehouse.
Nick Peck is a well-known figure in the logistics industry – having held management positions for the likes of Cerebos Greggs, DB Breweries, Bendon and Toll Logistics. He also set up and owns a successful de-vanning operation, Logistics Plus.
He also has a long-standing relationship with Interlogic, having used Multipick® in several of his warehouses.
“Multipick gives us the ability to scale-up our training as required,” says Nick.
“For our introductory training, we’re only using a subset of what the software is capable of. Eventually, we could move to training scanned packing and voice picking. With Interlogic’s technology, we can tailor the training to meet the evolving needs of the industry.”
In future, the training facility will also be available to Interlogic clients – and prospective clients – who require specific staff training on Multipick® functions.
